Don't get sucked into the banks' insistance that you should have a Business Account. If you don't need a Business loan or the like then it is possible that an ordinary current account is what you need. The money saving on that is that you don't then pay the charges that they load onto business accounts. There is no legal requirement for a Business Account, although you should have an account for your business.

You are completely right Sal, although Abbey (or is it Santander?) have a business account that promises to be free for the life of the account as long as you meet certain criteria.  It's designed for one man (or woman) bands who will use online or postal banking and not deposit cash over the counter.  I have 2 of these accounts, for each facet of my business.
Obviously ask for details as they change stuff like this all the time.

Unfortunatley due to my business loan I couldn't fake an ordinary account, however, I discussed the idea of free banking with the bank manager and have had the fees dropped considerably.  I still have to pay for over the counter banking (I also know the way around this one), but all online stuff is now free.  My business credit card is also without an annual charge, all I need to do is ring them, why they can't remove them altogether is beyond me  Huh  I believe the banks don't want to lose business so you can negotiate so suit yourself.
